Noticeable Symptoms of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) can affect anyone. Some infections cause noticeable symptoms, while others may have no symptoms at all. Getting tested is the best way to know your status.
Common symptoms to watch out for
1. Unusual discharge
Discharge from the penis or vagina that is unusual in colour, smell, or amount.
2. Painful urination
Burning, stinging, or pain when passing urine.
3. Genital sores, blisters, or ulcers
Open sores, blisters, or unusual wounds around the genitals, anus, or mouth.
4. Unusual rashes or itching
Itching, irritation, or rashes around the genitals or other parts of the body.
5. Lower abdominal or pelvic pain
Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis, sometimes with pain during sex.
6. Swollen glands or fever
Fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, or unusual tiredness can occur with some STIs.
Important: You may have no symptoms
Many STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis, can be present without obvious signs. You can feel completely healthy and still have an infection.
If you notice any symptoms, have had unproteMcted sex, or are concerned about exposure, visit a healthcare professional for testing. Avoid sex until you have been assessed if you suspect an STI.
